In his address, Mr. Mathur focused on emergence of smart cities as a result of partnership between private and public sector. According to Mr. Mathur, a larger segment of world’s population is shifting towards cities as migration is taking place from rural to urban areas. It is estimated that about 75 percent world population by 2050 will reside in cities. To dilute the pressure on infrastructure of cities, Digital India initiative is an extensive exercise to equip them with basic technology in order to make our cities more effective and mature. One such innovative effort made by Vodafone is development of mobile application in Germany to suggest an adequate parking spot. Prepaid accounts to deduct toll in Dubai and Traffic Monitoring Devices available to citizens in Dubai.
